National and international businesses will find out how the University of Sheffield's world-class scientists and state-of-the-art facilities can take their research and development to the next level during a free networking event on Thursday.

More than 350 firms are already registered join the Innovations in Healthcare industry open day in The Octagon Centre, where company bosses can meet leading academics and hear how forging a partnership with the University can help find solutions to their problems.

As well as being able to book meetings with the University's scientists and business development managers, firms will also have the opportunity to tour the University's facilities – including INSIGNEO, a multi-disciplinary institute to develop computer simulations of the human body and its disease processes, and the Sheffield Centre for Robotics, which researches new robotic technologies, human-robot interaction, and our understanding of the impact of robotics on human society.

The event has been organised by the Sheffield Science Gateway and Sheffield Healthcare Gateway, which support people in forging relationships, driving innovation and advancing science in collaboration with academic experts in the University's Faculties of Science and Medicine, Dentistry & Health.

Dr Jen Evans, Research Development Manager at Sheffield Science Gateway, said: "'University-business collaborations benefit both partners and generate solutions that help society at large."

"We have organised this structured networking day to allow businesses to find out about the latest developments in the University of Sheffield's healthcare research and how partnering with us can take their research and development to the next level."
