Kent-based connector manufacturer Deutsch UK, now part of TE Connectivity, launched a lightweight version of the AS connector at last week's Autosport International Show in Birmingham.

The AS Micro XtraLite HE range of Motorsport Micro connectors will now be available in a 6-way version, extending the capability of the product which is already available in 3- and 5-way variants.

“When space is tight, as it always is, and weight reduction so critical to the most competitive teams, the tiny, lightweight XtraLite is highly valued.  The new 6-way version significantly extends the capability of the range,” said Paul Webb, autosport sales and marketing manager for TE Connectivity.

Suitable for sensor applications, the AS Micro XtraLite HE range features a super-lightweight design (size 2 shell).

The shell is constructed of high strength aluminium alloy with a conductive black zinc finish.

The new 6-way version has six size #24 gold-plated, high conductivity, crimp-type solid contacts. There are six keyway orientations with clear visual indication of connector orientation.

The connector is also available in 3- and 5-ways.

The positive locking coupling mechanism means the connector is suitable for blind mating, ideal where space is tight and access is restricted. The scoop-proof interface avoids damage in operation and front loaded inserts prevent retention failure.  The special boot termination feature means there is no need for backshells.  There is a PCB mounted option.

Integral interfacial wire sealing and the bonded, sealed inserts prevent moisture ingress, ensuring an IP67 rating for water immersion (1metre for 30 minutes minimum).

The operating temperature range is from -55 degrees Celsius to +170 degrees Celsius.
