Finnish food company Raisio Group is planning to streamline operations and cut down costs in the UK in view of the present operating environment, market conditions as well as changing consumer demands.

The company's UK unit manufactures snack bars and breakfast cereals.

Raisio plans to undertake a consultation process in the UK regarding the employees and Southall site in London, before initiating the reorganization of the business.

The consultation process concerns 99 employees at the Southall site. The company is also contemplating relocation or outsourcing of its manufacturing and closing down the Southall facility.

Raisio's Snack & Cereal unit vice president Tomi Jrvenp said: "To ensure future success, it is extremely important that we develop our activities so that our product range meets current and future consumer needs and that we maintain our competitive edge in local and international markets. Raisio's strength is the ability to innovate delicious, healthier and ecological snacks."

Jrvenp added that the company has made several changes to the present operating model of the business in order to boost profitability at the Southall facility and speed up the sales of cereals.

Raisio is focused on producing healthy and ecological snacks. Apart from snacks, the company's product range also includes breakfast and bakery products, pasta and barley products. The company caters to direct consumers, caterers, bakeries, and others in the food industry. Its snack and cereal brands include Elovena, Harvest Cheweee, Honey Monster, Nalle, Nordic, Provena, Sunnuntai, The Dormen, Torino and Professionals.

Last year, Raisio acquired Benecol business in the UK, Ireland and Belgium which helped the company gain licensing rights to produce cholesterol-lowering functional foods under Benecol brand in those regions.
